Description

Warm, cinnamon-spiced Apple Crisp invites comfort with its golden, crumbly topping and tender fruit filling. Homemade goodness fills your kitchen with irresistible aromas, promising sweet memories and delightful moments shared around the table.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples:

  • 6 cups peeled, thinly sliced apples (Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, or Fuji recommended)

Crisp Topping:

  • 2/3 cup (160 ml) all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup (160 ml) old-fashioned oats
  • 2/3 cup (160 ml) light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) unsalted butter, melted

Filling and Seasoning:

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons apple juice (or orange juice)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch baking dish to ensure the crisp doesn’t stick.
  2. Craft the crumble topping by blending flour, oats, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Incorporate melted butter until the mixture forms delicate, coarse crumbs. Refrigerate the topping to help it set and maintain its texture.
  3. Prepare the apple filling by combining sliced apples with lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and vanilla in a large bowl. Gently toss until the apples are evenly coated with the sweet, spiced mixture.
  4. Transfer the apple filling into the prepared baking dish, spreading it in an even layer to ensure consistent cooking.
  5. Sprinkle the chilled crumble topping over the apples, creating a generous, textured layer that will become golden and crisp during baking.
  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes to allow the apples to soften.
  7. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 25-30 minutes until the topping turns a rich golden brown and the apple filling becomes bubbly and tender.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the crisp cool for 10-15 minutes to allow the filling to set. Serve warm, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • Use firm, tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture and balanced sweetness in your crisp.
  • Slice apples uniformly to ensure even cooking and consistent tenderness throughout the dish.
  • Customize the topping by adding chopped nuts like pecans or almonds for extra crunch and nutty flavor.
  • Make this recipe gluten-free by substituting regular flour with almond flour or gluten-free baking mix in both filling and topping.
